A home
office is incredibly convenient to have. Especially if you work from home
full-time, without that space that separates work from home (and you from
screaming children and other distractions), it can be nearly impossible to get
anything done. But we don’t all have a spare room to use as a home office,
unfortunately.
You might
want to consider turning your garage into a home office!
Depending on
the size of your garage, you may not be able to park your car in it anymore. If
you have a double car garage and only need a small office space, you can
probably manage to fit both your new office and one car in the garage, although
it won’t feel as “office-like” with a car behind you. Either way, this gives
you a separate, quiet space in which to do your work.
If you’re
not planning on parking your car in there anymore, you can give your garage a
real turnaround by installing new flooring. Hardwood and carpet are both great
options, depending on your preferences. If you don’t want to install new
flooring, a nice, large area rug can help liven up the space.
Clear out
all unnecessary clutter and get rid of as many belongings as you can. Chances
are, you’re storing some stuff in your garage that you really don’t need. Take
the stuff you do need, and find an attractive way to store it in your new home
office.
Add
furniture and decorate. Now to bring in the most important part – the desk and
chair! You also want to make the space feel cozy and inspiring, whether that
involves painting the walls or replacing them, hanging wall art, or bringing in
some additional furniture and installing a bookshelf.
Bring in the
light! The one big downside to having your home office in a garage is the lack
of natural light. That can be a real bummer for people trying to be productive.
You can opt for installing a new lighting system that brightens the space up a
bit, or you can replace your garage door. Building a new wall and window can be
an intimidating project. Luckily, there are garage doors out there that are
made up of glass paneling. This a great solution for bringing in natural light
that’s fairly cheap and easy – all you have to do is replace your garage door. Now it’s
time to settle in, and enjoy your new home office. Get back to work!
