Design Your Home for Weekend Fun

Not every day we get an opportunity to enjoy our life in our very own sanctuary with friends and family. Our extremely busy schedule and job demands hardly allow us any cushion time. But, when it comes to weekends, isn’t it too obvious that our weary soul will crave for some relaxation? And what else is a better option than a happening house party?

But have you decided to dress up your home for the weekend fun? Here’s what an investment banker, Salankara Agarwal has done to make her 3 BHK apartment in Serampore ready for weekend escapades.
Low-maintenance Decor

As already mentioned, working people cannot invest much time in home maintenance. Hence, having low maintenance decor items is the ideal choice. A house party is not an everyday happening. You are going to use these decor items only during house parties or any special events. So, avoid fabrics and furniture that require full-fledged maintenance and care. Opt for easy to maintain, cotton or linen to accentuate the aesthetics, while matching the decor demands of the uber-stylish urban folks.

Less is actually More

Go minimal when it comes to design your weekend fun space. “Less is actually more”, when it comes to get some cool vibes for weekend fun in your living space. A great way to ace the design for your weekend home is to keep things simple. Get some colourful furnishing and throw pillows to add colours to your party space. Colourful curtains are best accessories to deck up the space, but refrain from investing in too many accent pieces. Simply invest in the essential appliances that would make for a comfortable stay.

Opt for Neutral Tones

To bring in the perfect party mood, work on your wall paints. Keep in mind, a weekend fun space is also a space to unwind and relax. Keeping in line with this idea, you can create a wall with neutral paints, while the other part of the same wall can be textured. You can also create a mix and match theme by using multiple hues in your walls. For the neutral tones you can go with pastel blues, greens, beige, and other classic colours. While being soothing to your eyes, they can play the perfect contrast to the textured or bright wall, thus creating the ultimate fun space in your home.

Add Some Greenery

Going green is always amazing when you are notching up a weekend fun space. Bring home some fresh and relaxing floral herbs. With everything else, make sure to invest in types that hardly demand much maintenance. You can choose from options like bougainvillea, tropical evergreens such as crotons, different varieties of palm trees, and colourful caladiums. All you need is to trim leaves and water these plants to ensure that they keep healthy round the year.

A Last Minute Tip

To elevate the glam quotient in your very own living space, build a rock garden in a cosy nook. Accessorize it with several types of cacti. The best part is that they perk up the aesthetics of your space practically with no maintenance.

Key Tips To Consider When Designing Your Stairs

Is your stair a hero in your home?A staircase is much more than just a functional way of getting around your home or commercial lot. Homeowners and guests can have the freedom to explore multiple floors with ease thanks to a well-built staircase, but it’s the well-designed ones which can truly make an impact on your chosen environment.

The way you design your own stairs can create different looks and alter the mood within a room. The opportunities are endless when it comes to designing your own staircase, you can use an app, a website like this staircase design online service, design your own staircase with an architect, and have your stairs custom built to exactly how you want them.

Therefore, without further ado, we are going to give you some pointers on what to consider when creating your dream set of stairs.

Innovative use of space

Just because you have a large staircase in your home it doesn’t mean you have to lose the space underneath it. There’s a variety of constructions you can create to help open up your environment and make it feel bigger. A nook can be created to provide kids with a small play hub or filled with books and a daybed for a cozy retreat. Creating more open space will enhance the feeling of space in your room and change the overall dynamics of the room.

As an alternative, you could also create an enclosed space under the stairs which can have a function or be used as a quiet retreat. Add glass doors to create a stylish wine cellar, cover up with cupboard doors to create a cloakroom or add a stable type door to create a small play environment for children.

Public domain or private

A staircase can put in place an unspoken barrier which can either invite or discourage guests from using the stairs. Just altering the design can give a different impression as to whetherit is considered appropriate to ascend to the upper floor.

By creating stairs in such a way that the top layer is in effect hidden from view, guests may be curious of what lies at the top of the stairs but at the same time know that whatever at the top of the stairs is private unless invited.

Add more to your stairs

Materials and structural costs for building a staircase can vary enormously but even low budget builds can still achieve an aesthetically pleasing look and feel.
Little extras can completely change the look of your staircase and make it more of a focal point in your home. Strips of LED lights are a popular option which adds a glow to your stairs and softenssome decor choices. Although the bulbs will require maintenance it’s a decor choice which can add extra sparkle for parties or annual festivities.

Another finishing touch for your staircase could be carpet or timber flooring. These aesthetics can be used to blend your staircase in by matching the color carpet to your landing or hallway or make it stand out by using a contrasting color or material.

Whichever design you choose, make your stair the hero of your home.

Key Interior Design Trends for 2019 Spring/Summer

2019 is the year of sustainability and natural materials which has come just in time for the upcoming spring and summer months. Of course, there are some gorgeous colours to embrace too, but when it comes to decorating the home, the emphasis on choosing designs that are classic and longer lasting, rather than trends that will quickly become outdated. Take a look at some of the key trends for 2019 spring/summer below.

70s Retro Fusion

This nostalgic trend celebrates Mid-century interiors and designs form a bygone era. 1970’s interior trends are back and re-imagined for the modern home. Inspiration from a decade of style, bold prints and daring designs has made this trend perfect for the brightening spring and summer seasons. Don’t worry, this trend has left the psychedelic wallpaper in the past and focuses more on contrasting textures, woven wall hangings and a splash of daring colours – perfect to prepare for just in time for spring.
Natural materials such as bamboo, wicker and rattan are being championed and paired with plenty of greenery, luxe layers and colourful tasselled detailing.

An earthy palette and geometric prints can also be incorporated within this trend which are complemented by rich accent colours and statement lighting. When opting for this trend, be sure to follow the ‘less is more’ philosophy and be careful not to over clutter.

Recycled

Sustainability is an overriding theme this year as more and more home interior brands are making eco-conscious choices. Brands are looking into new ways to re-use materials, such as paper, fibre, foam and plastic in the aim to give them a new life.

Space Themed

No, we’re not talking about a children’s bedroom. With the launch of projects such as SpaceX and Virgin Galactic making space travel a possibility in the not-so-distant future, the latest interior trends are looking to the sky for inspiration. From start constellations and vast galaxies, to rich midnight blue tones, this 2019 trend explores a decadently dark colour scheme with all the intrigue of the night sky perfect for late summer evenings as the sun begins to set.

Texture

For the first time this year, French Connection have launched a bedding range, and it perfectly fits into this spring/summer trend of tactile materials, based around slow living with the emphasis on natural resources.

This look is predominantly about creating a cosy feel by mixing texture and pattern through the use of accessories like tactile throws and cushions. Wove materials are key for Spring 2019, particularly across contemporary furniture and decorative items and textiles.

Alternative Patterns

Continuing from last season, this look is used as a counteraction from the minimalist look which has become hugely popular over the past few years, pattern is super key this season. The main rule is to keep the colour palette the same tonally, so everything has the same softness, and nothing stands out more than the other.  Use plain furniture as a blank canvas to allow room patterned cushions, wallpaper and rugs.

Mustard
Mustard has become the go-to shade over the warmer months, particularly in our homes. It was once used as way of adding small pops of colour to a room however this trend is seen to be moving towards larger investment pieces of furniture as a way of adding a bold and refreshing burst of colour to a living space.

It’s a versatile shade that works brilliantly with millennial pink, teal and indigo blue and of course, crisp white if you want to create more of a fresh look.

Tropical
This uplifting trend will work beautifully over the spring/summer season and is a joyous celebration of nature. The botanical prints are delivered in a softer format which is diluted by a desaturated, almost pastel, colour palette.

Bold wallpapers such as tropic leaf designs are going from strength to strength this year and vibrant bold prints can breathe new life into rooms, no matter the size.

This summery botanical trend is a great testament that our love for nature and sustainability continues to proliferate.

Refined Glamour

The new 2019 glam designs are embracing a more sophisticated and less sheen look. Luxury materials such as pewter, marble and velvet can be combined to create beautiful, fine decorative details. Fringing is a huge component of this trend from lampshades to wall hangings and cushions – fringing should be added to you glamourous summer renovation.

Dusky rose is a primary colour within this trend and works beautifully with minimal neutral tones, marble, velvet brass materials and smoked glass and copper fittings.
