This type of salt comes in large white granules that can be spread manually, or with automated machines. It is not uncommon to find this type of salt on roadways, sidewalks, paths and playgrounds. They can be purchased in mini bags and bulk bags. It is also available in 29 Tonne loads.

Brown Rock Salt
Brown rock salt can be found in the UK, and it is also imported from locations all over the world. This is the most common type of rock salt that is used throughout the UK. Its brown color makes it easy to determine where it has been spread. It is much easier to see the Brown rock salt on top of the contrasting white snow.

Because it can be found locally within the UK, it is the least expensive form of rock salt. This is another reason why it is so popular. It can be spread manually, or by automated machine. Brown rock salt is also available in the same sizes as the white rock salt.

In the location where I live, it is snowing today. Steadily since midmorning. It is the first snow of this season. However, in our village we don't use salt except on the principal road. It can damage plants and contaminates soil and groundwater. We wear thick, warm clothes and plump jackboots. On dangerous spots we scatter loose chippings or sand. So we don't neither slip nor fall. When the snow has gone we will sweep up and wait for springtime.
