Monumen
Nasional (the Monument National) in Jakarta, Indonesia is topped by a 14.5 ton
bronze Flame of Independence. At first, this bronze flame structure was covered
with 35 kg of gold foil but since 1995, during the 50th Indonesian
independence anniversary, the gold foil was recoated to 50 kg of gold foil. The
obelisk and flame structures of the monument symbolize the struggle for
independence of Indonesia people (data
