Looking for the
perfect place to buy jewelry is no easy feat. In fact, it is a very delicate
process that every individual must go through - similar to checking a precious
stone’s karats. In Kansas, there are numerous jewelry places
wherein you can find jewelries of all kinds.
With this being
said, your precious jewelries are definitely one of the things that you should
always take care of since you want them to stay and look stunning as the day
you purchased it. Good thing there are a lot of homemade items that you can use
to keep them clean and sparkly, which are as follows:
Aluminum Foil
If most of your
jewelries are made out of silver, then cleaning them with an aluminum foil is
your best bet. The job of an aluminum foil is to collect tarnish that are
usually found in jewelry, specifically silver jewelries. In addition, you can
also use aluminum foil with a homemade jewelry cleaner and your silver will
have that brand new shine again!
All you have to do
is to get a bowl and line it with aluminum foil. Then, fill the bowl with hot
water and mix it with one tablespoon of powdered laundry detergent. Once the
mixture is done, place your jewelry in it and let it soak for one minute. After
that, rinse your jewelry with warm water and let it air-dry.
Ammonia
Now, if your
jewelry is mostly made out of gold, silver, and diamonds, then opting to use
ammonia as a jewelry cleaner is the way to go! All you have to do is to place
your jewelries in a ½ cup solution of ammonia with a ½ cup of warm water. Let
your jewelries soak with the mixture for about 10 minutes. After that, use a
soft-bristled toothbrush and gently scrub your jewelries to remove the
remaining dirt. Then, rinse it off water and use a soft cloth to dry your
jewelry completely.
Though this
technique may be effective to gold, silver, and diamonds, don’t do this with
your jewelry that has pearls in it. This is because the ammonia mixture can
make them dull and damage the pearl’s delicate surface.
Baking Soda
Baking soda is one
of the household items that can help you clean your jewelry. In fact, using
this will hugely help you in removing built-up tarnish that is found in your
silver jewelries.
To do this, mix ¼
cup of baking soda and two tablespoons of water to create a thick paste. Then,
apply the mixture to your jewelry with a damp sponge. Make sure that you gently
rub, rinse, and buff dry your jewelry with it. However, if you want to clean
your gold jewelry using this technique, all you have to do is cover it with a
light coating of baking soda and pour a bit of vinegar on it. Then, rinse it
off with water until the mixture is gone.
Like ammonia,
don’t use this technique with jewelry that has pearls or precious gemstones as
this can immensely damage their overall finish and loosen up any glue.
Soap and Water
If you are too
afraid to use different mixtures on your precious jewelries but you still want
them to be sparkly clean, then tidying them up with soap and water will
definitely help you with this. This technique is very ideal when you want to
clean porous and soft jewelry like pearls and turquoise.
Simply put three
drops of gentle laundry detergent or dish soap to two cups of warm water. After
mixing, quickly dip your jewelry to the mixture. Then, use a soft cloth to wipe
and dry your jewelries.
These are some of
the ways wherein you can clean and make your jewelry sparkle again at home!
However, if you are still unsure about cleaning them on your own, you can
always go to the nearest jewelry store and let them do the magic of cleaning
your jewelry.
