Job Relocation Checklist

image:pexels.com

Moving to a new location for a job can be a stressful experience, but it doesn't have to be. The following checklist is designed for anyone moving and wants to make the process as smooth as possible. This list covers everything you need to do before leaving one location and starting your life in another. It includes making sure that your finances are in order, researching what your new city has to offer, hiring a reputable moving company, taking all of the essential documents with you on the day of departure, transferring utilities like gas or electricity over after arrival at your destination and packing an important bag!

Make Grip on Finances

There are several expenses to consider when planning for a successful job relocation successful job relocation. Your company may pay certain expenses and not others or have a budget you must stay under. Be as prepared and informed as you can before making your plan. Have a budget created for your move, and ensure you have access to the necessary funds before leaving (It is better to be safe than sorry!) Most people don't consider how they will bank, but it is one of the most important things to remember when you move. Your financial institutions may be regional or local—research on banking services available. You want to avoid getting stuck in a situation where your bank account gets frozen!

Make Contacts in your New Location

It may make moving to a new place more comfortable if you can identify some acquaintances in the area before you arrive. If you are staying at the same company, it's a matter of reaching out to contacts you already interact with professionally. When contemplating a move, one of the most important things you can do is reach out to former classmates, colleagues from other places you've worked, or groups in your area on social media. With LinkedIn and Meetup optimizing for this type of information gathering, it will be easy to find them. Do not hold back information on your move from colleagues, friends, and family members. They may know somebody who currently lives in the city so you can get a domicile you are interested in.

Research about New Location

When you are offered a bigger salary to move across the country, but you have to know the living cost in the new location to make sure your raise is a worthwhile increase. It will be better if you also learn about the lifestyle of your new neighborhood. Suppose you are a foodie, research popular restaurants in your new city. If you are a fitness enthusiast, ensure access to biking trails or Pilates studios is near you. Going from small towns in rural locations to big cities or coastal communities to the middle of the country can be a major culture shock. Research the new location and any changes to daily life. Make a plan before you relocate.

Hire Moving Company

The more exclusive a moving company is, the better. Perhaps your benefits coordinator can provide suggestions on how to make the most of your move. Ask the movers about all the details, including how long it will take to wrap furniture for you and what kind of insurance it includes. The more questions you ask, the better. The pet relocation process can be just as necessary for those of you with cats, dogs, or other domesticated animals.

Before you make any final decisions on a mover, it is best to ask for references and get more information. You should also be clear about what your needs are. Different moving companies offer different services, so before deciding which one you want to go with, make sure they have something that suits your needs the most!

Take all Important Documents

To help you get started, it might be a good idea to make an organized folder. For any digital person, make sure to save a copy of the receipts by taking pictures of them. It is essential to take these documents with you in preparation for upcoming tax filings.

One important tip for a successful job relocation is to ensure your security access codes and account numbers can be accessed promptly from any location. It is not uncommon for people to put off changing their bank account or credit card information. Make sure you have your important documents well in hand because this will help make the transition smoother!

Take all of the most important documents with you when moving, including originals and copies of things like birth certificates, passports, social security cards, marriage license if applicable (if different than passport), divorce papers if necessary (usually only needed if a spouse was on the deed). If any documents are irreplaceable such as an original copy of a degree from a university, then it may be best to take those with you rather than trusting them to the movers.

Conclusion

There you have it, our exhaustive Job Relocation Checklist - the perfect guide to help you in your next relocation. Just remember that there's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to this process. Take some time to figure out what works best for you, and then do all of these things! We hope we were able to provide a little relief before undertaking such an exciting but daunting endeavor. Good luck with your big move!

Ways to get rid of old bulky furniture during a home cleanout

A woman smiling behind a headboard wrapped in foil.

Getting rid of bulky furniture can be quite a hassle. It takes forethought, whether you are moving out and have no place for it in your new home, or your move did not go as planned and now have some replacing to do, or you wish to replace the furniture that pets or kids have destroyed. It's essential to know different ways to get rid of old bulky furniture during a home cleanout. How you should get rid of furniture mainly depends on how much you need to dispose of and how soon you want to complete the task. Here are some options.

Sell old bulky furniture online

Selling your furniture online is one of the easiest methods that may also be highly advantageous for you. You will be able to sell your belongings on your terms and on your own schedule. You may also barter with a variety of different people from the comfort of your own home. Make sure to photograph your old, bulky furniture and present it in the best light possible. Also, be sure to include a description and a low price, as this will increase the number of individuals interacting with your post. And do not worry about your furniture selling. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

When it comes to packing the furniture you've sold, you'll need to be cautious and utilize the right equipment. Now is the time to stock up on cardboard boxes and packing tape. Bulky items such as a king-size bed might need some extra help when you wish to pack it for a safe transfer. If you have a lot of furniture you're getting rid of, do not be afraid to approach your friends or relatives and ask for assistance.

Be especially careful when packing delicate furniture that can break easily

Hold a garage sale

If you wish to speed up the process of selling your furniture, you might want to consider holding a garage sale. Garage sales and online sales are the best ways to get rid of old bulky furniture during a home cleanout. This way, you'll be able to get rid of the items much faster than you anticipated.

However, garage sales can be pretty tricky at times because they require planning and some effort. Clean and polish the furniture to make it look presentable and move it to the front side of your house. Then, price the items reasonably, spread the word about the sale, and wait for potential customers to arrive. Keep in mind that to sell everything quickly, you may need to decrease the prices.

Donate old bulky furniture

If you want to be more charitable, you may decide to donate the furniture you no longer need. Giving your furniture a new home will feel fantastic. You never know who will be grateful to have the pieces you're eager to discard. First, ask your friends and family if they wish to receive your unwanted items. After that, check different local shelters or charities. But remember, not all items are eligible for donation. Some bulky furniture may be in poor condition, making donation difficult. It will also be an issue if your furniture is hefty and large. Therefore, you will need to inspect your items and research which you can donate and which not.

It might be a great time to volunteer and donate your items all on the same day!

Recycle it

If your items are in too bad shape or were just impossible to donate, do not worry. You can recycle them! It will require some work on your side but is a tried and true way to get rid of old bulky furniture. Before you even think about recycling, check with your local recycling center to see if there are any limitations on what they'll accept. In some cases, these centers might have a long list of regulations, so double-check before bringing anything.  To transport it to the recycling center you have chosen, you might need to break it down. It necessitates the use of gloves and safety eyewear. Who knows, by the end, your old closet might become beautiful timber flooring

Dispose of it

Some items cannot be recycled, sold, or donated, so the last and final way to get rid of old bulky furniture during a home cleanout is to dispose of them

The guys from centennialmoving.ca strongly advise reducing the amount of load you are moving to a new home, especially if you are moving long-distance or even internationally. It will lower the cost of your move and make it significantly less challenging. Therefore, whatever you no longer need or want in your life, particularly if it's on the bulkier side, you will be best off eliminating.

So, if you have no other option, there are several ways to dispose of massive furniture.

Get a roll-off dumpster

A roll-off dumpster is a huge, tough-to-break-down waste bin often utilized for big cleanup jobs. It is rectangular, made of steel, and has an open top. There are different places where you may rent one. The prices vary depending on the location, size, trash type, weight, and rental time. You must schedule a pickup once you load your items (with the help of your friends and family or without). Most places offer online scheduling, which can be pretty convenient.

Obtain the services of a junk removal company

Getting professional help is always a good choice if you are tight on time and need help. Junk removal services are just what you need! Professionals from a junk removal company will come to your home to estimate the cost of removing your furniture. The price will depend on the number of items you want to get rid of and their weight. Also, by choosing this option, you will save yourself the trouble of moving furniture. You can entirely rely on the professionals you hired to load and transfer your old bulky furniture.

A safe and sure way to get rid of old bulky furniture during a home cleanout is to hire professional help.

Take the items to a landfill near you

As a final resort, you can transport your furniture to a landfill near you. Because landfills are usually full, this should be your last option. Also, you must do your research on which things they might accept in your city's landfills. Additionally, see if your city offers any free bulk pickup services. Before you attempt to get rid of old bulky furniture during a home cleanout on your own, always contact any landfill or service and gather all the necessary information. Then, you will be one step closer to getting settled in your new home getting settled in your new home and you will have no loose ends do deal with.

Small space tips and tricks to steal from New Yorkers

A studio apartment with a kitchen, dining room, and living room area.

It's challenging to downsize from a spacious suburban home to a small apartment. Many feel disappointed with their move because they ended up with many things and insufficient room. Having a smaller apartment is not as awful as it seems, though. Smaller apartments are easier to clean and maintain while also being generally cheaper. However, a lack of storage room for your belongings is a significant disadvantage. When it comes to places like New York, the rent can be pretty expensive, so most people opt for tiny studio apartments. Thus, space is considered precious there. This is why we will make a list of small space tips and tricks to steal from New Yorkers.

Declutter all unnecessary items

Small living spaces can be a hassle for any homeowner. This is especially true if you plan to move to NYC. Finding cheap apartments for rent can also pose quite a challenge. You will have to keep in mind that affordable housing in the Big Apple means you will have to sacrifice some space. To utilize all the space that you have in your tiny apartment, make sure to declutter! Decluttering can elevate any place, big or small, in NYC or anywhere else in the world.

Look through all of your possessions and discard anything that you no longer require. Make sure to donate and repurpose all the items you can. Having a minimalistic approach can always help with decluttering. Think about how many miscellaneous items like kitchen utensils, towels, and toiletries you realistically need and use.

Think about how many kitchen utensils you actually need and how many guests you can actually host in your tiny apartment.

U.tilize vertical spaces

After you've said goodbye to all of your unnecessary belongings, you'll most likely still have items you cannot fit anywhere. This is the time to look around your small space and make use of every empty vertical space you may find. Shelves will become your new best friend because they are generally cost-efficient and easy to prop up. They can hold all of your miscellaneous items, especially ones worth showcasing.

There are many different types of wall organizers to choose from. However, do not worry about the labels because a kitchen organizer can be just as useful in the living room. Also, try to hang as many items as you can. You can find a wall organizer for anything from your bicycle to your shoes. And do not forget to utilize the wall space above your toilet. By the end of this step, you will feel much more settled in your new home.

Consider space-saving furniture

It is a great idea to find furniture that is appropriate for your tiny home. This means you will have to find smaller yet functional pieces. A smaller desk that fits into the corner of the room is perfect for a small space. Another smart idea you can implement is getting multiple smaller end tables instead of one big coffee table for your living room.

Also, if you can purchase some multifunctional furniture, you will have much more space! A murphy bed is exceptionally versatile and can be quite a game-changer when it comes to maximizing your free space. A couch that can spread into a bed is a great alternative. If your current apartment lacks a sofa, now is a good time to invest in one that has storage space beneath the cushions. This way, you can have space for items that no one will even notice. If you have space under your bed, it might be a good idea to use it to store things like suitcases or boxes. Small apartments generally lack closet space, which can be a downside if you have kids. But don't worry, there are plenty of storage solutions, even if you have kids.

A woman using a laptop while lying on an extended sofa.
One of the most practical small space tips and tricks to steal from New Yorkers is to get multifunctional furniture like a sofa bed

Hang mirrors

Hanging mirrors is one of the most used small space tips and tricks to steal from New Yorkers. Mirrors are a highly useful optical illusion since they can make any space appear larger. An added element is they make your living space appear brighter by letting the light bounce around. Of course, it is essential to prop the mirrors up in strategic places. A few well-placed mirrors go a long way. Make sure to get the height right and place it in a well-lit area (like across a window) and never buy a mirror with a thick frame. To utilize space even more, you can find a mirror with a shelf on the bottom to store more of your precious items.

Opt for light colors

So, you've found a great mover through Best Movers NYC and moved into your new apartment in the Big Apple. You have also followed all the tips listed above, yet your apartment still seems cramped. This might mean you need to use lighter colors on your furniture, flooring, and walls. If you're decorating your new place, opt for lighter wood and colors in general. And if you have the option to -  paint over your dark walls. This will certainly make your small space seem larger.

To make your tiny space appear larger, choose bright colors when ever possible.

Keep it clean

If you decide to follow any of the small space tips and tricks to steal from New Yorkers, the most crucial one to remember is keeping your space clean. You must maintain your cleaning routine whether you have selected minimalist home decor or not. Clean the windows, wash the carpets, dust, vacuum, change your bedding, and put away any items that are not in their designated place. Do all of this and do it more regularly! Also, invest in a decent air purifier to eliminate odors when cooking.  Your housemates will thank you for it.

How to be safe when doing home projects this summer

Picture of a red and white water ring floater

Summer is here, and it feels long overdue. Queue barbecues and outdoor get-togethers. Say hello to the sun's rays waking you up in the morning, encouraging you to start the new day. Rejoice at the prospect of lounging on a sunbed as waves gently remind you to relax and take a sip of that refreshing beverage in your hand. Immerse yourself in numbers as you calculate how much you will need to fix that faulty air-conditioner and install new blinds. Wait...what? There are certain touch-ups and renovations every home needs, be it summer or winter. To save money, you may want to do it on your own. For example, checking if your HVAC is summer-ready is a responsible step to take.  However, you must know how to be safe when doing home projects during these summer months. Not 100% sure? Don't worry; we've got you!

'S' stands for summer

Black sunglasses on the sand with the sea in the background
Can you find all the summer words starting with the letter 's'?

See the sultry sky, sunrays skipping over silent, see-through clouds, as you discover serenity in the shade of a tree during this sizzling season of sun-kissed days, sandals, seashells, and sandcastles. Acknowledged - alliteration was never my strong suit, but one word stands out above the others. Safety. On this note, a slight digression could be in order. You should avoid doing some renovations on your own, altogether, as they require more than just goodwill. The tips in this article are not enough to overcome the difficulties these particular tasks pose.

In any case, no matter what part of the year you have chosen to carry out your home projects, you need to take care of yourself. The summer takes away the cold and rainy weather but brings a host of new challenges, the chief one amongst them being the summer heat. As the thermometer threatens to shatter its glass casing, it is essential to remember that our bodies are prone to overheating. We are prone to dehydration. The number one rule should be to always have a bottle of water at the ready. Whatever project you have chosen to keep you occupied during the summer months, a glass of the old Adam's ale should be the first tool you pick up. Summertime safety simply states stay saturated...ok, ok, I'll stop!

Get out of the heat and stay safe when tackling your home projects this summer!

A dog lying in the shade and taking a nap, symbolizing how to be safe when doing home projects this summer
Shade and rest- essential to be safe when doing home projects this summer

Now that we have regulated our water intake, there are still other dangers that come with the summer sun. Heatstroke and heat exhaustion are not to be taken lightly. Why? We often think we can handle more than we really can. It's nothing to be ashamed of; we're almost hard-wired to act like this. DIY is in our DNA, and there is no better feeling than pushing yourself to the limit. Until, you know, you actually pass that limit. So taking rests is a must. That porch won't mind if it's fixed today or in three days. Your body will be thankful if you treat it right. The work will be more effective, and you will be healthier and feel better if you break up the work into manageable chunks.

There is a third part that makes up this holy trinity of sorts when it comes to working safely on your home projects during the summer. And wouldn't you know it, it starts with an 's'. Shade is the final missing piece. Stay out of direct sunlight, as it's always cooler in the shade.

One thing should be noted, despite all that has been said. Don't think you get to leave the old safety goggles, gloves, and a hat in the garage because it is hot. If the project calls for it, the full gear should be worn. It just means taking more regular breaks is in order.

Summer moves

Nothing quite like a good summer jam, something to move to during those beach parties. However, many people choose this time of the year to move a bunch of boxes too. If you have decided to relocate during the summer, a look at the sweltering heat outside could leave you second-guessing your decision. It looked good on paper, but now you are not so sure. There are reasons for and against moving in the summertime. While it holds true that you should be careful when relocating in heat, a quick look at the pros and cons could help you make your final decision. Don't forget; there was a reason you chose to avoid moving during an icy winter's day, after all.

Be safe when doing home projects this summer and all year round

You will find that at the heart of most things, there is a set of basic rules. If we put aside differences in weather conditions, most of what applies to frosty February is applicable to ardent August as well. We've organized these tips into a neat little list, just for you:

  • Choose your battles- Not all tasks should be done on your own. Faulty wiring? Ask yourself, do you have the needed equipment and expertise to handle it safely? Have to plan a big move quickly? Maybe professionalmover.ca could be the better way to go.

  • Awareness of your surroundings- Yes, it sounds like the cliched advice given to a young apprentice by his master in any given action movie, but this one holds true in real life too. Your workspace is your dojo, if you will. You need to know who is there and where your tools are around the work area. Maybe putting a ladder in front of a door in a house full of kids, for example, is an accident waiting to happen.

  • Keep a clean shop- We've all heard about the importance of cleanliness. Keeping your workspace organized and tidy means you avoid possible accidents. Unless you're a certain kid protecting your home from burglars, power tools and sharp objects should never be left lying around the house. Do everything in your power to stay safe this summer when undertaking different projects around the house

  • Slow and steady wins the race- There is no need to rush, especially during the summer. Take advantage of those long, long days.

A safe summer is a fun summer

A sunset and silhouette of trees and a patio next to a lake
A good day's work makes the sunset all the more enjoyable

The above tips should help you stay safe as you tackle those odd jobs around the house. These rules are not here to suck the fun out of your undertakings but simply to give you some pointers on how to be safe when doing home projects this summer. With all that added sunlight, why not fix the front porch, clean that AC unit, and still have a glass of refreshing ice lemonade with your neighbors on the patio?

P.S. The answer to the question under the first photo was; sunglasses, shade, sea, sky, and sand...thought I'd leave that here for the more competitive of you out there.

Synthetic turf can be utilized to build pathways through your gardens in landscaped areas. It can also be utilized to create tiny sections in an isolated location for a table and chairs. Turf can be cut into strips for a straight or curving path, as well as squares or circles for stepping stones and standing spaces.Synthetic turf is an excellent alternative to overused and sometimes dangerous sports fields. If a grass field is utilized more than three to four times a week, in the rain, or during the six months of the year when grass does not grow, the surface will deteriorate into an unsafe, rock-hard dirt field. Artificial turf is a suitable for pets. Because it can't be dug-fup and ruined by pets as real-grass can, it'll continue looking good even if you have cats or dogs. It is easy to clean and remains hygienic & unaffected by pee. This makes the turf excellent to use in kennels and other similar environments. Furthermore, mud spots dug-up by dogs cannot degrade the grass. Plus, it's just as fun for dogs to play as genuine grass. Using a little detergent and water or one of ours pet-friendly solutions, you may quickly remove animal excrement off the lawn.

Over time, artificial turf may prove to be less expensive to maintain. This is because the fertilizers, pesticides, hoses, lawn shears, strimmers, rakes, waterweed killers, lawnmowers, , and grass feed all contribute to the cost of maintaining natural grass. This makes significantly more cost-effective over its whole existence than genuine grass.Synthetic grass have considerably improved in look over time, and many higher-end grounds now have a  natural appearance. Our synthetic turf has the same feel and looks as natural turf.Artificial grass extremely adaptable. It can be utilized for a variety of purpose and in a variety of environments, including roof terraces, offices, decks,  hotels, gyms, golf courses, poolsides, play areas, exhibition spaces, bars, balconies, restaurants, and events, among others.Artificial grass, when built appropriately, has great drainage properties (upto 60 liters per minute!) and, many circumstances, dries faster than natural grass when it rains. UV-stabilized artificial turf provides excellent sun protection. This mean it won't fade or discolor in the sun and will keep its bright green color.
