My principal gave me one for Christmas, but it has bloomed and is how happily planted in the ground. I, too, love watching them bud and then bloom. They are amazing flowers. This shot is stunning...fab lighting.

They have become a favorite of mine as well. I never though to see how they'd look monochrome, it's very nice.
Lovely and moody. I think your image would benefit from a crop from the right. Maybe a square image? It's fun to experiment because even small changes in cropping can make a dramatic difference in the image.
