Luckily, for simple errors, there are simple ways to troubleshoot. It doesn’t take a handyman and a hefty bill to get our appliances to sign up for a longer life span. Simply follow the list below to find out what to do when the inevitable happens:

1.   Tightly Seal Your Oven Door.
Without a proper seal, your oven can lose more than 20% of its heat. This will result to your food taking longer to cook or an unsatisfyingly cooking; therefore check the seal’s condition once in a while. To check if the seal’s condition is alright, open the oven door and locate the rubber or fiberglass gasket around the perimeter of the door. Feel if there is anything broken, torn, or if there are areas deformed and damaged. Close the door then find out if you can find any leaks. If it leaks then simply replace the seal.
2.   Clean and Replace Dirty Range Hoods.
Wash metal-mesh grease filters by hand in soapy water or you can simply run them through your dishwasher. Be reminded that charcoal or paper filters should not be washed, instead replace them if they are no longer in proper condition anymore.
3.   Clean Coils in Your Fridge.
Plenty of things can clog up your refrigerator coil – from dirt, dust, and even pet hair. If there are things blocking the refrigerator coils, it is restricting the air flow and causing the refrigerator to work harder to keep the food inside cool. With the use of a handheld vacuum, simply clean out the coils and suck up on any loose particles. Most refrigerator coils can be found either behind the kick plate or at the rear of the fridge. It all depends on the model of your refrigerator though, so just simply look at the manual to locate the coil.
4.   Clean Stovetop Drip Bowls.
Cleaning your stovetop drip bowls is very easy! All you have to do is remove the drip bowls from underneath your burner elements and then pre-soak them in cleaning solution for five minutes. After that, hand wash the drip bowls before replacing them. Don’t forget to clean your drip bowls immediately after spills because if spills burn into the bowls, you will need to totally replace them.
5.   Fix Rusty Dish Rack Tines.
Rust on the tines of your dishwasher racks can adhere to and ruin your dishes and silverware. To solve this issue, you will need a tine repair kit and a sealant to adhere the replacement tips over the rusty and chipped tines. Let them dry for 24 hours before running your dishwasher.

Lack of skill and know-how is definitely the greatest obstacle one can face when performing a DIY repair, from home appliances to even your car’s mufflers from the Philippines. Hopefully the list above can help you a little when it comes to some of the most common errors that you can experience in your household appliances.

4 Plants You Want in Your Garden for Natural Pest Control

Can’t seem to have some fun in the sun when there are lingering insects nibbling you, your family, and your garden? Well, there’s nothing pest control can’t handle. However, if you prefer a more natural way of eradicating nasty bugs gnawing on your orchids, a repellant that won’t harm family members such as small children and pets, then we have the right solution for you – plants that are natural deterrent to specific insects! Planting them around your lawn won’t only guarantee an eye-catching and fragrant garden, but it will also reduce annoying pests lurking about.

Lavender

There’s no denying that the aroma of lavender is divine. It’s even safe to say that a lot of people favor its fragrance among others. Despite this, we can’t say the same thing for some insects. Tiny critters, such as fleas, flies, and mosquitoes, are absolutely disgusted by its foul stench that they would rather stay away from it than spend the day annoying you. Sweet on our noses yet disgusting for insects, planting lavender all over your garden or harvesting them to place it inside your house is a good way of keeping these insects at bay.

Chrysanthemum

Who said chrysanthemums can only be displayed in funerals? Prove society wrong and go against the norm by planting loads of them in your garden! We are definitely not pulling your leg here. Chrysanthemums are like knights in shining armor because they are meant to accompany other plants to protect them. They are known to repel jumper and flyer insects that usually plague most gardens. In addition, not only will Chrysanthemums bring beauty in your home, they will also repel certain pests like lice, silverfish, and cockroaches. You read that right, COCKROACHES! If you ask us, any flower that can keep away those creepy crawlies is impressive in our books.

Basil

Truly a renaissance herb; not only does basil go great in your salads, but it can also double as a repellent against mosquitoes, making them think twice before grabbing a bite from your delicious, non-meat delicacy. Joking aside though, basil herbs have plenty of uses that do not involve cooking. As suggested before, they can be used to ward off common pests in your home such as mosquitoes and houseflies. Because of the odor it gives off (the most potent are cinnamon and lemon basil), planting them in your outdoor and indoor gardens is enough to keep these insects at a distance. But you can also take things up a notch by turning basil extracts into a natural insect repellent solution to further protect yourself once you step out of the comfort of your home.

Marigolds

Besides being pretty at most, marigolds play a big role in gardening, and that is to keep unwanted pests from roaming around. Mostly used as decorative bordering, marigolds do a good job when it comes to pest prevention. And good news for vegetable gardeners, they are also good at keeping away pests that have a genuine love for tomatoes. In spite of this, though marigolds do an excellent job in keeping mosquitoes away, it is not advisable to keep them inside your homes as their bright colors may attract wasps. In other words, indoor marigolds are a no-no.

Aesthetically pleasing, yet effective pest repellents, who said multitasking isn’t possible? If you have a penchant for the ‘all natural’, try these insect repelling plants. Not only will they help in improving you and your family’s health and lifestyle, it will also help keep a healthy ecosystem in your garden.

Sand Blasting Is Not Just for Cleaning

You would never think that sandblasting has applications beyond simply cleaning a surface. There are certainly many companies that resort to sand blasting services in order to clean buildings and remove grime and graffiti. But sandblasting is used in a variety of industrial settings in order to do more than just clean.

Why Use a Sand Blasting Service?
Sandblasting is used in a wide range of applications and is considered to be a precise and efficient process on surfaces that are appropriate for the treatment. But, apart from cleaning, what other advantages does using a sandblasting service offer? Consider the following.

·         Surface preparation: Because sand blasting is a fast and abrasive process, it is often used in industrial equipment manufacturing where metallic surfaces need to be prepared adequately for powder coating or a finishing coating. The abraded surface is ideal for the adhesion of a number of protective and powder coatings, including industrial paints. The high pressure of the sandblasting process will also remove old paint and strip the surface of contaminants, so that it can be put through a finishing and coating process.
·         Cleaning: Due to the high pressure and abrasive nature of sandblasting, any surface contaminants are quickly and efficiently removed. This can be used in industrial applications for surface preparation, but it is also used by local councils, for example, to remove graffiti from buildings, and a build-up of dirt, grime and pollution.
·         Protective coatings: The sandblasting process can coat a surface with a number of added finishings, including paint, epoxy primers, silicone, zinc and polyurethanes. Many of these coatings serve to protect the underlying substrate material and are durable and hard wearing. This makes the process ideal for areas that require weather sealing, and protection from weathering and fire damage. The coating left by the sand blasting process will also protect from rust and corrosion.

Even though sandblasting is an abrasive process, it can actually be eco-friendly when bicarbonate of soda is added as a cleaner. It can be considered a non-toxic process when used in this manner so that workers are not exposed to toxins. This makes sand blasting flexible in terms of application and use.

Using a Sand Blasting Service
If you are in a position to require a sand blasting service, it is always a good idea to check the credentials of the company that you are considering using. A reputable company will always provide obligation free quotes, and answer your questions thoroughly and without fear or hesitation. There are many such services available for hire, and one can even find sand blasting in Perth.

You should expect that a sandblasting service will be comprehensive in its service offerings, and include at least some of the following:
·         Sandblasting that is fast and efficient with a satisfaction guarantee
·         Sandblasting services that are available for any job regardless of size or complexity
·         Protective coating services that include appropriate finishing options for your requirements
·         Industrial coating

Sandblasting is a flexible solution that covers a range of applications beyond simple cleaning services. Do your homework and research companies before you decide to hire one. Check out their offerings and ask as many questions as possible.
