Yellow Spot on Pit Lane

I saw this metal yellow spot on the pit lane of the Sentul Circuit (Bogor, West Java Province, Indonesia). I don’t know the name. It seems a movable shortcut access for motor racers from the track into the pits.

5 Basement and Crawl Space Moisture Control Tips

Are you looking for a way to reduce the humidity levels inside of your home? If so, one way to do that while decreasing your chances for developing mold and mildew and also paying less when it comes to your energy bills is to control the amount of moisture that you have in your basement and crawl space.

Although there are professionals who can do this job for you, if you're willing to take out a couple of days and follow these instructions, you can keep a few dollars in your pocket by doing it yourself.

So, if you're ready to get started on eliminating the moisture in your basement and crawl space, please read on:

Slope the earth from the house. If the ground around your house naturally slopes towards it, this means that rainwater will easily collect close to the foundation of your home. This can definitely result in significant moisture issues. One thing that you can do to remedy this problem is to slope the earth five feet away from your home at a five percent grade. For specific instructions on how to slope your ground, visit Landscaping.About and put "how much slope you need near your house" or Yard Care and put "fix grade problems" into the search field.

Check your gutters. The reason why gutters are so essential to any home is that they help to catch a lot of water and debris. But when gutters are not cleaned out regularly or they are broken and don't get repaired, they can also lead to moisture and even foundation problems. As far as the best time to clean your gutters, you should do it once in the spring and once in the fall. For tips on how to clean them, visit Planit DIY and put "how to clean gutters" in the search field. For tips on how to repair one of your gutters, visit This Old House and put "repair damaged gutters" in the search field.

Add a foundation drainage system. Something else that can greatly benefit your basement and crawl space is to add a foundation drainage system at the bottom of the footing of your home; that way water can easily drain out of that space. Once you're done installing the system, you should also perforate a four-inch drain pipe with some gravel and then cover it with filter fabric. YouTube has videos that can walk you through the insulation process. Go to the site and put "DIY foundation drainage system" in the search field.

Seal your cracks and holes. Someone who works for a company like Stay Dry Basements of Ct would probably tell you that you should also check for small holes and cracks in your basement. If you happen to notice any, this is one of the main ways for outdoor moisture to seep into your house. The best way to seal these open spaces is with a bit of caulking. You can pick some up at your local home improvement store.

Invest in a dehumidifier. One of the best things that you can get for any room that has a humidity issue is a dehumidifier. It's a very effective and affordable way to reduce moisture, especially in places such as your basement. If you're wondering what the best dehumidifier on the market is, you can read some pretty thorough reviews by going to ConsumerReports.org and putting "dehumidifier reviews" in the search field.

5 Tips for Installing and Replacing Windows

Whether you're currently building a new house or you're remodeling the one that you have, there's a pretty good chance that you'll be looking to either install or replace your windows. If you're wondering which kind are best, make sure that they are double (or triple) pane and that they also come with the Energy Star label on them. That way, you can be sure that they are energy efficient.

Although you could hire a professional to install your windows for you, the good news is that you can also put them in yourself. If you'd like to know how, here are some tips that can make the window installation process easier for you:

Measure the window. It would be a shame to find the perfect window for one of the rooms in your house, only for it not to fit properly. So, before doing anything else, make sure to measure your windows. You can do this by first figuring out the width. This requires measuring the inside jamb of each window from one side of the window to the other. Make sure to measure the bottom, middle, and also the top of each window. Then use the narrowest width for your replacement window. In order to figure out the height, measure the top of the windowsill along with the bottom of the window's head jamb. Measure the left, middle and right of the window. Then use the shortest measurement for your replacement window.

Remove the stop side pieces and the sashes. Once your window is properly measured and purchased, you're then ready to remove your old window. First, remove the side stop pieces for your window. Make sure to not discard them because you will use them again. Then remove the inside sash of the window. If it's an old window, cut the cords or chains attached to it. The next step is to slide the outside sash to the bottom of the window. It's important to discard the parting beads and then remove the outside sash as you would the inside sash. Just make sure to not remove the exterior stop from the window jambs. You will need it for the exterior window. Then clean the window jambs and sills.

Do some marking and caulking. Now you're ready to put in the new window. For starters, put down a bead of caulking on the inside part of the outside portion of the jambs. Then mark the sill for the sill angle. Next, caulk and install the sill angle.

Install the window. The next step is to center the sashes vertically into the window frame, making sure that the mounting holes in the side jambs are visible. After that, place the expander on top of the window, making sure to caulk its top. Place the window in the opening and make sure that it's even. Be careful not to install the screws too tightly. If you do, it could ultimately damage the side jambs. Finally, slide the header up so that there are no gaps between the window and the actual frame.

Seal and caulk the window. Whether you consult with someone who works for a window and door company like Lyndhurst Lumber or you read an article on a website like DIY Network, something else that you're going to be instructed to do is to seal and caulk your window. That is what will help to stabilize your window. So, after sliding your sashes up and down to make sure they are moving smoothly, caulk the inside of the window. Then, reinstall your inside stops and you're done. To see a video of how to install a window, go to YouTube and put "install a window" into the search field.
