4 Simple Home Decor Ideas to Add Oomph to Your Home

Charlotte Moss – an Interior designer – says it best:

“There are two things that make a room timeless: a sense of history and a piece of furniture”.

We concur. In fact, we’d go on to add a lot more to that simple statement Charlotte makes.  To make your home really work, we’d throw in tasteful minimalism, fantastic art, little trinkets, various knickknacks, and possibly simple finishing touches to your home décor.

Choose mood. Set it up

The first step to essential home décor is to decide the mood, lighting, and many other basics. Some timeless necessities remain: you’ll need proper lighting – both natural and artificial. Window shutters, drapes, and vertical blinds can help you regulate natural sunshine flooding into your room. As for artificial lighting, there’s no dearth of lighting fixtures, floor lamps, table lamps, lights embedded into false ceilings, and many other ideas to make your home stand out.

Less is good. Avoid Clutter.

There’s a reason minimalism works: too much of anything is clutter. That holds good for life in general and for rooms in particular. Exercising restraint is an elegant exercise. It keeps your rooms serene, peaceful, quiet, and allow for light, sound, and air to flow.

Choose simple furniture; avoid trying to fill up every inch of space with something. Much like white space between reams of text – or in the belly of intricate design – empty space renders simplicity to your home décor.

Windows need dressing. Always

Bare, open, undressed windows make your home look bare. Further, you’d have no privacy from roving eyes of strangers while adding to the risk of attracting more attention from those with malicious intent to intrude. Windows, needless to say, are best covered when not open.

Curtains are old-fashioned. Even standard shutters might look a little outdated (depending on your original home design and décor). For a change, you can try out some inexpensive vertical blinds.  Further, vertical blinds have textures and they come in a variety of colors to allow you to match them with your overall color theme.

Hunt for home furnishings. Like, Forever.

If you go out looking, you’ll have plenty of elegant home furnishing objects to shop for. While you don’t have to trade in your money for Aztec art or ancient Buddhist relics, you’d find plenty of handmade pottery and plenty of other objects to dig out your choices from. For instance, Realsimple.com has a beautiful list of at least forty elegant home furnishings that can make your visitors go, “wow”.

What would you like to do today to add that extra touch of personality to your home?

Ceiling Wedding Decoration

We attended two wedding parties last Sunday. One wedding has red and yellow theme. I saw this wonderful fabric wedding decoration on the ceiling.

The Classic Beauty of Vintage Furniture

Vintage furniture has a special classic charm. Vintage is a word that refers to anything that is old yet still beautiful, charming, tasty, or expensive. When it comes to furniture and other household items, vintage usually means these items are about 30 to 100 years old.

Choosing Highest-Quality Vintage Furniture
In order to choose vintage furniture of the highest quality, it is crucial that you understand perfectly well how a specific piece truly reflects the era it represents. This means that a piece that is supposed to be manufactured 60 years ago should actually look as if it was the kind of furniture that was seen in households of the 50s. This means that vintage replicas should certainly be as beautifully classic as the original.

A good 30s furniture piece should have the Art Deco look with a few touches of French designs. This means that if you like the look of the 30s, you should look for pieces made of Depression glass and lacquered wood.

Popular 1940s furniture sets include lounge chairs that were more commonly known as the Charles Eames chairs. Metal patio sets were also hugely popular during this era, as were classic phonographs and antique porcelain enamel chairs and table sets.

Furniture of the 1950s is usually brightly coloured, and kitchen sets during this era were designed like classic diners. So you may see bar stools and chrome tables if you are searching for 1950s pieces.

During the 1960s, most pieces still had the influence of the 1950s, like the chrome-plated tables and chairs. Moroccan rugs also invaded this era, and most homes during this time were decorated in what was known then as the modern space-age décor.

Important Factors to Consider When Choosing Vintage Furniture
Vintage furnishings should also be well crafted and built with high-quality and sturdy materials. Therefore, it is necessary to be well informed. If you have no idea about materials and designs, it is best to do a little research first.

If you want authentic vintage furniture, your best option is to go to garage sales or auction houses. Going to garage sales is a cheap way to get vintage furniture, but they may sell furnishings that have not been restored so you should prepare yourself to find some unattractive pieces. Auction houses will surely display restored pieces, but they may also be expensive.

Buying Vintage Furniture from Reputable Dealers
In order to ensure that you will be getting high-quality vintage furniture, it is best that you find a reputable dealer. A vintage furniture dealer has a good list of the items they sell. They will have an impressive-looking website that showcases the items they are selling, and they can guarantee the excellence of the materials and the manufacturing quality of each piece they sell.

Vintage furniture dealers may charge more than used item stores, but you can be assured that each piece will be in much better condition. Piece selection is also a lot easier when dealing with a professional dealer as they can provide you with a wide variety of vintage choices that fit your particular taste, theme, style, or design.

Professional Vintage Industrial dealers are also well informed about all the designs and styles of any era; therefore, you can ask them for recommendations and you will surely get the best ones.
